  • Introduction

    This class is an introduction to drawing that will teach you many different approaches to drawing, with the big idea being that you will discover your own unique artistic style.

  • Challenge 1: Contour & Gesture

    In this challenge, you will learn to draw an object without even looking at it! It's called Contour Drawing, and the results can be striking. Gesture drawing is fast and fun, you draw from the inside of the object out and try to capture the feel of the pose or composition more than getting a realistic object. Contour and gesture drawings are the easiest and quickest way to gain confidence in drawing.


    This challenge should take about eight hours to complete.
  • Challenge 2: Sketching & Doodling

    • You belong to Tri A

    In this challenge you will learn the basics of sketching and doodling: the foundation of ideas. Sketching and doodling are fun and actually help you remember information, so if you are a doodler in class, you are learning more and better. By the end of this challenge, you will feel confident sketching your thoughts and ideas on paper.


    This challenge should take about ten hours to complete.
  • Challenge 3: Composition & Edges

    Composition is the conscious effort to place subjects on the page so as to draw the viewer's eye over the drawing longer. In this challenge you'll learn several composition strategies and have the chance to demonstrate your skills.


    This challenge should take about ten hours to complete.

  • Challenge 4: Shape & Volume

    • You belong to Tri A

    You are now at the point where this class will take off and so will your drawing skills. When you consider drawing a scene or object, make a few quick sketches of the composition before you settle on your final approach. This challenge will make your planning easier by showing you how to break complex objects down into simpler shapes that are easier to draw.


    This challenge should take about ten hours to complete.

  • Challenge 5: Light & Shadow

    • You belong to Tri A

    Your drawings will come to life when you shade them using white, black, and all of the grays in between. Focus on looking at light and shadow in nature and go out and shoot some photos you can draw from later. In this challenge, you will overcome your fear of higher values and really give depth to your work. Get a dark pencil or some charcoal , if you can, dor your prep drawing in this challenge.
